Hi, & need some ID Help
« on: May 23, 2009, 11:16:59 AM »

So first of all, hello to everyone,

I currently have some succulents (I always was thinking they're spineless cacti, but after some research I think they're succulents) and carnivorous plants, a bonsai, and other small stuff.

My Carni are

Dionaea muscipula
Sarracenia Moorei
Utricularia sandersonii

and some Drosera, when I get around to plant them.

now I have this plant (Honeysuckle?) can someone ID it for me please?

Tropaeolum majus
From: encycl. of house plants;
annual plant, climber. Water them but never feed them, flowers better in poor soils, likes a moist airy place.

Both correct, one is the English, other the Latin.

The leaves and flowers are edible (!!!)

They will probably dry out shortly, they seed freely and you should have new plants around October. They are also invasive to an extent so try to keep them within the confines of your garden... There are also double flowered varieties and quite a few colours.

Nice zero-effort repeatable results  Wink

Oh and the caterpillars of the Cabbage White butterflies really, really love them... but no worries as they make an appearance shortly before the plants would start to dry out anyway, and if not, Nasturtiums are such fast growers that damage is quickly sorted, I never bother to take any action.

One can find nasturtium flowers in a salad dish, mostly in Germany and Switzerland. It's very common in these countries.

There are more than one species in Malta, but all tend to be somewhat difficult to ID. Malta Wild Plants gives one as Eucalyptus camaldulensis, another as Eucalyptus gomphocephala.
